ABOUT THE SUMMER JAZZ WORKSHOP 2017:

Join jazz professionals Steven FriederElena Bonomo and Luca Rosenfeld for a 2 week Jazz intensive Workshop for students grades 6-12. Led by Mr. Frieder and being held at the Cortlandt School of Performing Arts in Croton, NY, the workshop will provide a fun and thorough program involving Jazz Improvisation, Rhythm, Theory and History. From blues to swing to funk and beyond, the workshop will be an invigorating and immersive experience for any young musician! Learn to play the Blues and Groove out! We are looking for intermediate to advanced students who are ready to take their chops to the next level! 
Students can sign up for either a one week or two week session.
 

DATE AND TIME:

  • Week One:  July 3-7     

  • Week Two: July 10-14  

  • PUBLIC SHOWCASE ON FRIDAY July 14 at 3:00

  • Hours:  Monday through Friday, 9am - 2pm.


DAILY PROGRAM  (9:00AM-2:00PM):

  • Jazz Ensemble - Small combos will be formed and students will practice and perform jazz standards as well as the blues.

  • Improvisation - An introduction to improvisation will feature lessons in music theory and ear training. 

  • Rhythm - Students will learn about different types of jazz rhythms including swing, funk and latin jazz concepts as well as studys in odd time signatures. 

  • Jazz History/Listening - Perhaps the most important of all, students will be exposed to the great jazz recordings of all time and learn about the history and development of the music. 

  • Special Guests will also be invited and share their experiences as professional jazz musicians!

  • Lunch Break Daily (Students Bring Lunch)  - Pizza Fridays - Pizza and drinks provided by CSPA.
