STEVEN FRIEDER - Woodwinds Instructor

Steven, a Croton native, is an alumnus of the The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and also studied at the Manhattan School of Music. He was awarded the honor of Valedictorian of the New School for Jazz and C.M., class of 2013. He was also selected to represent the New School at the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland in April ‘13, performing for a week before the headliner, McCoy Tyner and the Latin Jazz All-Stars.
Steven has over 5 years of teaching and performing experience in the NYC/Hudson Valley areas and has recorded with the likes of Jon Burr, Bob Meyer, John Hart, Neil Alexander and other Jazz/R&B artists. He has performed with many groups at established venues in New York, such as Fat Cat, The Falcon Arts Center, Bordot Heights, The Bean Runner Café, National Underground, BB Kings, The Living Room, Goodbye Blue Monday, A.B.C. No Rio, and The Underground Lounge. He also led a quintet that performed at the Peekskill Jazz Festival.
In February, 2012, he was featured in the Jack Kleinsinger’s 39th anniversary “Highlights In Jazz” concert as a part of the “New Generation Stars” group, along with special guest, Bassist, James Cammack. In Februrary of 2013 he was a special guest on the 40th anniversary concert of Highlights in Jazz, performing along side Clarinetist Ken Peplowski and trumpeter Bria Skonberg
 With a focus in Saxophone and Clarinet, Steven is fluid in styles including Classical and improvised music including Jazz, Latin, Funk R&B and Rock and continues his studies in composition and improvising today. His teaching is reflective of his studies with masters such as Dave Liebman, George Garzone, Jon Irabagon, Steve Wilson, Armen Donelian and Marc Mommaas.
