JOSHUA NELSON - Woodwinds Instructor

Joshua is a performer, composer, and educator from Schenectady, NY. He began his musical journey at the age of 12 on the clarinet but later picked up the alto saxophone at 16, when he became exposed to jazz. He is currently completing his Bachelors’ degree in Jazz Studies at SUNY Purchase where he has studied with Ralph Lalama, Jon Faddis, Todd Coolman, Kenny Washington, Doug Weiss, Gary Smulyan, Pete Malinverni, and David Dejesus. Joshua has performed in venues in the New York area such as the Blue Note and Birdland. He enjoys teaching students the enjoyments of music and likes to incorporate many forms of improvisation in his lessons. As a teacher, Joshua believes that a student’s connection with music will allow them to grow as a person, as well as bring enjoyment to their lives.
